Everybody knows that if you are doing business in China, in the 21st century, you don’t bring anything with you. That’s ‘Business 101’ — at least it should be.

In großen Konzernen gehört die Zunft zweifelsohne zum Inventar. "Kein Unternehmen der Top-500 kann sich den Verzicht auf einen Qualitätsmanager leisten", sagt Henning. Sie sind Generalisten, Allround-Talente, überzeugen mit Fachwissen aus allen Unternehmensbereichen. Manchmal sitzen sie in der Chefetage, etwa die Hälfte aller Qualitätsmanager ist in der zweiten Führungsebene angesiedelt. Insgesamt arbeiten 35.000 Qualitätsmanager in Deutschland, wie eine Studie der DGQ ergab. Zehn Prozent verantworten allerdings in ihrer Funktion als Geschäftsführer auch das Qualitätsmanagement.

An online article in the German Financial Times attracted my attention. It is titled "Quality Management: Respected Guild". The image of quality management has changed from bean-counting to a pro-active change agent role with excellent management skills. Quality management is a leadership issue as most of the quality managers in Germany (according to this article) are executives or middle managers.
